Meet the Shape Notes

You and your children will enjoy immersing yourself in the musical realm inhabited by shape notes characters in the book Meet the Shape Notes. Meet the Shape Notes is a wonderful introduction to the art of sight singing. Studies have shown that learning to sing by shape notes is the easiest and fastest method to learn to sight sing. Each character in Meet the Shape Notes is based on the solfege system. Using beautiful hymns of the church, Meet the Shape Notes will teach your child how to recognize each note by ear when heard in relation to Do, the first note on the musical scale. 

About the Author:

When Caius Elliott first played his grandparents’ piano, he was so small that he had to reach over his head to touch the keys. He played and listened to each note separately, which likely contributed to his perfect pitch. His formal music education began with the piano at age five. He continues to enjoy learning music theory, instruments, and composition. His grasp of music theory is a gift he would like to share with other children.

About the Illustrator:

For years, Arabelle Elliott has drawn on every piece of paper left unattended. Even the corners of her math schoolwork are graced with her characters. Her favorite style is manga/anime although Kawaii sometimes makes an appearance. Arabelle also loves music theory and began piano training at age nine. She has since added singing and guitar to her formal studies.
