Was the New Testament church a denomination?

In this tract, Carl McMurray discusses the non-denominational concept of the church.

The church of the first century had no earthly headquarters, no creed books, no confusion over which covenant they followed (when Judaizing teachers tried to bring aspects of the Old Law into New Testament practice they were soundly rejected), and no confusion over fellowshipping so-called brethren who went beyond the teaching of Christ, 2 John 9-11. It seems clear that the Lord’s church in the first century was not a denomination, a division, or a fraction.
